Of Oil, Heavy Oil, and vintage engines...

So of course, it had to happen given the high price of red diesel now.. apparantly the RN DM3 can run on old engine oil. difficult to start in the cold I guess, but then a little diesel may help that along.
Anyone got experince of this sort of thing? I know it would mean a tank conversion, filter replacements, and so-on, but it could mean cheaper running, and no declaration of tax that is incorrect.....
hmmm

Keith & Jo of nb Hadar did the BCN explorer in the company of nb Kyle which has an RN running on engine oil, http://narrowboathadar.blogspot.com/2008/08/bcn-cruise-countdown.html

Ahaa - Brian Jarretts boat!! I have spoken to him before I even got the ol' RN, so it seems another phone call won't go amiss.. Many thanks Andy.

Steve, Have just been speaking to Brian (I have a load of oil that I hoped he would want but he has enough) and he says that there isn't much to converting a RN to run on oil. Basically just increasing the injector pressures and using 2 filters. He says that he is often at the factory if you need to contact him.
